Monfort College of Business affiliates with High School of Business program

GREELEY — Students who complete the High School for Business curriculum offered through 82 high schools in 15 states, can enroll in the University of Northern Colorado’s Monfort School of Business with three hours of college credits under their belts.

The Monfort College of Business and the MBA Research and Curriculum, which developed High School for Business, recently signed an affiliation agreement that allows participating students the chance to get a head start on accumulating college credits.

Paul Bobrowski, dean of Monfort College of Business, said the partnership creates an opportunity for students throughout Colorado and across the nation.

“Students completing this very rigorous career-tech program can enter UNC with both academic credits and, of equal importance, a solid understanding of the career field they may choose to pursue,” Bobrowski said.

About 6,560 students are enrolled in the program nationwide. The program prepares students to excel in college business administration programs, such as those offered at UNC. Students dive into real projects via project-based learning — an educational method in which students learn concepts while completing projects that often involve collaboration with local businesses.

Columbine Kiwanis Club August 2014 002
On August 6, 2014, High School of Business students Alex Morales and Summer Pilling were guest presenters at the Columbine Kiwanis Club in Littleton. The presentation was the first in what will be an ongoing effort to let the community know about this unique CTE pathway. Members learned about High School of Business, the CTE pathway concept, the pedagogy behind the classes, project-based learning, and concurrent enrollment opportunities. We believe that developing community awareness is the first step in achieving our goal of building a positive working relationship with business and community. High School of Business students will be developing a marketing plan as part of the project-based learning curriculum.

Comments from High School of Business Alumni, Teachers and College Partners

My first college economics course is in a lecture hall that holds hundreds. As the professor began to talk on the first day, my fellow students frantically wrote down every word. Not me. I’d already learned it in High School of Business.
–Josh Dardick, Student, The Ohio State University

Students completing this program can earn up to six credit hours of college credit which helps move them along their way to a degree. This program is quite unique, and we are looking forward to working with the High School of Business in this endeavor.
–Dr. John Hoag, Acting Interim Dean, College of Business, Bowling Green State University

We are able to deliver a high level of business curriculum in a project-based environment, implementing “reasoning” level of understanding. Students are able to not only learn vocabulary and new concepts but use what they have learned to solve problems.
–West Career & Tech Academy– Clark Co. Schools, Las Vegas

Our students read and write about non-fiction in every course. It’s a natural connection with the Common Core.
–Helen Redmond, High School of Business, LEAP Academy (NJ)

In history class the teacher tells us what to do.  In Leadership we tell Ms. Nockengost what we’re planning to do.
–Tim Ellison, Grade 9, Ellet High School

University of Missouri – Kansas City Offers Scholarships for High School of Business™ Students

University of Missouri – Kansas City Scholarships for High School of Business Students

The University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) Henry W. Bloch School of Management is offering a $1500 renewable scholarship to incoming freshmen majoring in business or accounting who have completed the three-year High School of Business™ (HSB) program through the St. Joseph School District in St. Joseph, Missouri.

The $1500 renewable scholarship is roughly equivalent to four business classes. To qualify, students must have successfully completed the HSB program and be majoring in business or accounting. To renew the scholarship, students must maintain a 2.75 GPA.

“The students in this program already have a good idea that they want to go into business or accounting,” said Scott Ezzell, Assistant Manager of Admissions and Recruitment for the Bloch School of Management. “They are taking courses that will give them a good base in these program areas and help them be ready for our business program. We felt that if they successfully finished this program, they deserved the scholarship.”
