The top 4 competitors in each  event at the DLC will progress to the State Leadership Conference (SLC) in Vail, CO April 19 – 21, 2017.

The top four competitors in each event at the SLC will progress to the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, CA June 27 – July 3, 2017.

Develop a plan to complete a draft of your performance event by December 2, 2016.  You will have time in class to work on your event  (see the schedule below).  You need to plan to complete any product required for your event  and turn in so it can be uploaded for judging as a PDF file by January 20, 2017.

Project #4 Snapshot November 28 – December 14, 2016

I you choose not to participate in the FBLA competitive events and the FBLA District Leadership Conference, then you will work in teams to complete this and one other project next semester.

Your teams will need to collect information about the community around John F. Kennedy High School.  Decide among your team who will research each part of the Community Profile Worksheet Bring your data to the next class.  Your team should create a project plan that is due on December 2, 2016.

Your team has been hired as consultants by the local Chamber of Commerce.  The Chamber needs informational items to provide prospective business owners who are interested in locating in our area.  You can see examples of materials currently available on http://www.metrodenver.org/

Your team’s mission is to develop a Snapshot of our local community for the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce.  Read this Snapshot Chamber Memo to see what the Chamber is looking for.  The Chamber is looking for creative, original promotional material but they do not want a Google Slides, PowerPoint or Prezi.  Consider a video, brochure, website or other promotion that can be used to attract new business.

This project will be evaluated using the Project #2 Snapshot Rubric

Your team will present the materials you develop on December 13 & 14, 2016 starting the second half of the period.

November 14 & 15, 2016 Types of Businesses, Competition & Market Structures

Do Now: Work in your project teams to complete Get More worksheet.  Make a copy of the worksheet and share it with your team members.  When your team is ready ask for a copy of the answer sheet.

Objective:  Students will discuss the types of businesses (Retail, Wholesale, Manufacturing, Non-profit, and Service).  Students will read and discuss how competition impacts business and economic activity by reading Ready, Set, Compete LAP EC-008 and taking notes using the Competition & Market Structure Note catcher.  

Class Work:  One member of each team will open the Competition And Market Structure Note Catcher in Google Docs, make a copy and share it with the other members of your team.  Decide how you will complete the information on the note catcher using the Ready Set Compete LAP EC-008 as a resource.  When you team has completed the note catcher, each member should link it to their Google Classroom assignment.

When you have completed the assignment you may work on your project with your team.

Project #1 Business Biography

Part 1 Team Activity

This project will introduce students to the different types of businesses (i.e., retail, wholesale, manufacturing, service, and non-profit) in their local community. Students will work in teams for much of the project, with each team becoming experts on one of these five business types.

After developing an understanding of its assigned type of business, each team will select and research a local business that exemplifies that business type. Team members will conduct secondary and, when appropriate, primary research to develop an in-depth business biography that details their group’s selected local business, the business’s background, product/service offerings, successes, struggles, etc.

Each team will present its business bio to the rest of the class.

 Part 2 Individual Activity

Finally, each student will work individually to prepare a short one page typed report that describes his/her assigned business type and discusses how it differs from the four other types of business addressed in the project.  Use Google Docs to create your report and use a 1 inch margin, double spaced, 12 pt. Ariel or Times New Roman font.

November 7 & 8, 2015 Environmental Scan Presentation

Objective:  Students will orally present their team Environmental Scan and turn in the team’s written paper describing their recommendations for the business they surveyed.  Students will turn in their individual Environmental Scan Journals by sharing them in a folder in Google Drive or by printing them and turning them in.

You will have 45 minutes at the beginning of the period to finalize your team presentations, papers and individual Environmental Scan journals.  If you have difficulty sharing your documents in Google Drive, please ask me for help.

November 2 & 3, 2016 Business Ethics

Do Now: In Google Classroom make a copy of Ethics Match Up.  Share it with your team and match the items.  Link your completed match up to the assignment in Google Classroom.
