March 25 & April 4, 2016 Interview Skills Part 2

Do Now:  Respond using a Google Doc attached to the assignment in Google Classroom.  Use complete sentences and format your response in a paragraph with a topic sentence, responses to each question and a concluding sentence.  Use correct capitalization, spelling and punctuation.

  1. If you were going to hire someone to work for your company, what would be the first question you ask them in an interview?
  2. If you were being interviewed for a job, what question could you ask to show that you are interested in the job?
  3. What are your strengths that an employer would find desirable?
  4. What are you working to improve about yourself?

Objective:  Students will explore how to respond to interview questions, what questions to expect in an interview, and what questions they should ask.

Do Now:  Respond in Google Classroom.

Using an attached Google Doc and the 6 Trait Writing a Response outline, write a paragraph answering the following questions:

  1. What does it mean to make a first impression?
  2. Describe a time when you were unimpressed with someone you met. What caused you to be unimpressed?
  3. Describe a time when you were impressed with someone you met.  What caused you to be impressed?

Objective: Students will be able to describe the various ways an individual can make a positive first impression.

March 8 & 9 Job Application

Do Now: Respond using Google Classroom

  1. Read A Job-Seeker’s Guide to Successfully Completing Job Applications (link).
  2. In a Google Doc attached to the Job Application Google Classroom assignment, write a summary of what you learned about completing an application using the 6 Trait Writing Summary Remember to use correct capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.  Don’t use Texting Language in your response.

Objective: Students will explore the job application process and practice completing a job application.

Assignment:  School-to-Career Job Application.

Using what you learned about job applications, you will complete the FBLA Job Application  liked in Google Classroom.

This is for a fictional Management Trainee job at a fictional company, Merit Corporation.

When you are done, link your completed job application to the Google Classroom assignment.

 

Homework: Read  Win Them Over LAP QS-10 and answer the questions in the Think Sheet attached to the Google Classroom assignment.

March 4 & 7, 2016 Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP)

Objective:  Students will learn how to create and maintain their Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) by logging on to the JFK Website and click on Future and then the Naviance link to set up their plan.

Assignment:

  1. Log on to the on to the JFK Website and click on the Naviance Family Connection link to start your ICAP.
  2. Complete the DPS Post-Secondary and Career Goal Survey
  3. Create a 4-year course plan of high school classes that will prepare you for this career
  4. Create a Resume
    1. Highlight your education, extra-curricular activities, volunteer work, and skills that have prepared you for the career or college program you are pursuing.
    2. If you don’t have extra-curricular activities or volunteer experience, now is the time to get involved!  See the links to the left.
  5. Attach a copy of your finished Resume to the assignment in Google Classroom.
  6. When you have finished the assignment you may work on  missing assignments and  until the end of the period.

March 2 & 3, 2016 Career Exploration

Using the DECA Direct Google Classroom assignment do the following;

In the DECA Direct magazine on page 11 there is a short article “Don’t Wait Until May To Start Your  Job Search”. 
READ this article.
The OPEN the assignment and go to Create > Document to create a new Google Doc.
Write a brief, one-paragraph summary of the article. 
Follow the 6 Trait Writing a Summary outline. 
Use correct capitalization, punctuation, spelling and word choice

When complete, click on TURN IN to submit.

Using the Google Classroom Assignment for Career Exploration do the following:

Open the Google Doc you created last class with your chosen careers. 
Go to College in Colorado and research the carers you identified
Using the Career Exploration Worksheet, gather the information about your two choices.
